Maternity patients are permitted one support person and one visitor (18 and older). Although support people are not permitted in the triage area, they may rejoin the patient once they have been admitted to Labor and Delivery.
Once the patient has delivered and is in postpartum care, only one support person is allowed for the duration of the stay.
Every patient and support person will be screened upon arrival to the Sharp Mary Birch Hospital for Women & Newborns Grossmont.
To reach a patient's room, call 619-740-6000 and ask for the patient by name or room number.
If your loved one is staying with us, send a personalized e-card to brighten their day. Your message will be printed out and hand-delivered within one to two business days — completely free of charge.
From snacks to flowers, our gift shop has everything you need.

If you are a patient in our West Tower — including the Emergency & Critical Care Center or our Women's Hospital — any adult family member or friend, who does not require supervision or physical assistance, may spend the night with you in the hospital. Only one guest at a time may stay overnight.
Some areas of our East Tower can also accommodate overnight guests; please speak with your nurse to make arrangements.
If you'd like to recognize a physician, nurse or caregiver who made a difference in your or your loved one's experience with Sharp, please take a moment to send us a note of thanks.
Children must be 12 years of age or older, unless prior exception is granted. In addition, children cannot spend the night. All minors must be accompanied by an adult at all times. It may be helpful to prepare a child in advance for what they might see during their visit. You can always ask your nurse to assist you in explaining various equipment and procedures.
If you are staying overnight as a patient's guest, a sleeper sofa or sleep chair may be available in their room for you to sleep on. All sofas and chairs come with sheets, a blanket, a pillow and a pillowcase. One of our staff members can assist you with any arrangements you may need.
If you would like to bring a laptop computer with you for your stay, free wireless internet connections are available throughout the hospital. We also have several vending machines, a gift shop, cafeteria, ATM and a coffee cart located inside the hospital for your convenience.

With the recent spike in respiratory illness cases countywide, we encourage anyone experiencing symptoms to refrain from visiting until symptoms have resolved to help prevent the spread of illness.
